Workshops
WHAT THE TOPICS ARE
Let’s Talk About It: Eleven Areas of Concern for Cross-Cultural Workers on the Field
Amy Young, MA, LPC, Global Trellis
Often a disconnect exists between those who send Great Commission Workers and the cross-cultural workers themselves. In trying to understand the current disconnect—both the nature of it and what we can do about it—Global Trellis conducted an anonymous survey in January of 2024 to look at issues cross-cultural workers are dealing with in their contexts. You don’t want to miss what we learned!
Women and the Great Commission: Serving With and Caring Well for Women
Denise Beck, Velvet Ashes
Though 70% of cross-cultural workers are women, little of our longevity effort focuses on meeting the unique needs they face. This workshop offers useful tools for those who send and serve with women on the field. From supporting women who lead to walking with women through the stresses of life in cultures that often devalue them, we’ll cover practical ground and actionable takeaways.
Creative Care for Cross Cultural Workers
Ericka Harris, Oasis Rest International
How many losses are common to a missionary? More than we think! In this workshop, we’ll identify losses that are often overlooked and use creative reflective activities as a tool for caring for cross-cultural workers (and their children from kinder to young adult.)
What Does Soul Care Look Like in Eleven Areas of Concern?
Amy Young, MA, LPC, Global Trellis
In the keynote we painted the big picture of eleven areas of concern for many cross-cultural workers. In this workshop we will go granular and explore what soul care looks like in each area and what you can do to help foster soul care for those you work with.
How to Support and Care for the Missionary Family?
Lori Jackson, Barnabas International
“Living on Mission” impacts the entire family. Sending families to the mission field has potential for great positive impact and unfortunately, significant harm. Research shows that many TCKs (third culture kids) are suffering significantly. Join us as we consider this research and seek together to uncover ways that we can help families thrive as a result of their time living cross-culturally.
Smelling like Sheep: God’s Design for Missionary Care.
Josh Beck, Barnabas International
Ministering to and caring for missionaries is not for the weak. As a caregiver, how you provide care matters greatly. But even more so, who you are becoming as you provide member care is foundational to the flourishing of those you are ministering to. Many times, we need to slow down to catch up to God and what he wants to do in us and through us. Shepherding is one of the primary divine analogies used in Scripture to describe how Christians are to lead and care for people. Come hear from Josh how a good Biblical grounding the theology of shepherding can revolutionize how you care for those who go.
Best Practices for Member Care Through the Local Church
Terry Jackson, Barnabas International
Join us for an engaging interactive workshop exploring “Best Practices for Member Care Through the Local Church.” This session will delve into key member care practices specifically for the local church to promote missionary vitality and church vibrancy. Through a balanced mix of insightful presentations, collaborative table discussions, and lively group interactions, participants will examine both the opportunities and challenges of member care. This workshop is designed to foster a shared learning environment where we can collectively discern how to navigate and lead through an ever-evolving global context.
What’s In a Name? – The Terminology of Stress and Trauma
Barney M. Davis, Jr., M.D., Barnabas International
Trying to determine how I’m stressed is stressing me out. – A review of the various diagnostic categories, criteria, terminologies, and treatment options commonly seen in situations of stress and trauma in international worker settings.
